CNC Turning

Our CNC turning department offers high volume bar fed turning as well as regular turning services with a capacity of up to 342mmØ and 610mm turning length with 1m bar feed, allowing us to turn most jobs.

Bar Feed CNC Turning: We operate two Victor V-turn (342mmØ and 610mm turning length) 2 axis slant bed CNC lathes with Fanuc OTC CNC controls fitted with 1m bar feed systems and 700mm magazines. Whilst these machines are generally suited to high throughput with fast cycle times and scope for 24 hour unsupervised operation, they are equally well suited to smaller batch work and are in constant use.

Regular Turning: For general lower volume precision turning we operate a Hardinge Talent 8/52 with 160mmØ and 500mm turning length capacity with a 3-jaw power chuck . The Hardinge also offers through-tool coolant and headwall coolant capability as standard and can accommodate water- or oil-base coolants as required.

Boring: We have considerable experience with boring precision components offering a full range of capabilities including steps, grooves, gradients and internal large diameter thread cutting.

Tooling: Tooling is selected to suit the material type and surface finish requirements and is constantly inspected to ensure exacting dimensional and surface tolerances. We source tool tips from a wide range of suppliers to suit requirements, including:

Surface Finish: Many of the components we machine are destined for bearing load applications and require specific surface roughness tolerances which are checked by the machine operator using a bench mounted Surface Roughness instrument before going onto the next stage. This can be a critical process for other applications such as aluminium machining prior to anodising where the surface finish of the anodised component will be degraded.
